We took our produce containers to Solly Brothers farm and interviewed Bob about our
containers. He was pleased and happily critiqued our design. We found it interesting
that our lid design was good enough for larger produce and produce that stands on end
such as asparagus. Also he liked the idea of how it can be taken from the field and put
directly to display. Watch and see his opinion on our urban produce container.

The is our container ready to be loaded and transported back to the farm from the Rittenhouse Square
farmers market. Once the containers are empty they are stacked and locked together. We recommend that
the containers should be stacked three tiers tall with a lid.

How To set up a Produce Container from PirateDesign on Vimeo .
This is a video on how to setup our produce container box once it’s placed
on the display table. The farmer rotates the metal handles through the
bottom of the container to create a leg for the container to be tilted.

This is a model that we designed to figure out the size and shape of the produce container. We placed a ledge around the box that allowed them to lock in place when stacked. We also designed a lid that has two openings for hands. Also, we are still figuring out the side ledge locks for the wire to fit in.

This is an initial rendering of our container prototype.
We created a rendering to understand how the locking
mechanism connects the two containers. Also the containers
are going to be injection molded plastic. The CAD program
Rhino allows us to build the containers with fillets and
chamfered edges to be molded when in production. We are
currently working on final prototype models and possible wall
skeletal forms to reduce weight and keep structure.

This system demonstrates how an Urban Farmer moves produce from the farm to the market. We researched the interaction between the packaging and the urban farmer on a single sale day. We learned that the two groups, consumer and urban farmer, reuse and dispose the packaging differently.
